Introducing your new managing editor: Brandon Day

Photo by Mark Cunningham/MLB Photos via The Tigers have a new skipper this year, and so do we. Of the many things I have learned while writing about baseball on the internet, one of the most important (as it pertains to writing, at least) is this: don’t bury the lede. So, here goes. Brandon Day is now the managing editor of Bless You Boys. For those who have followed the site at any point over the past several years, Brandon needs no introduction. His writing and analysis are top notch, and he has been one of the preeminent voices on the Tigers blog and Twittersphere...

The hottest player in baseball is now on the hottest shirt in baseball. Three games. Two homers. One walk-off hit. Akil Baddoo is quickly making waves not only among Detroit Tigers fans, but across baseball with his hot start to the 2021 season. The former Rule 5 pick broke into the bigs in a big way on Sunday with a home run on the very first pitch of his MLB career. Thanks to our friends at BreakingT, you can commemorate the moment that a Tigers legend was (probably) born. Want one? Get it here! If you’re interested in joining the hype train, click this link...

VIDEO: Miguel Cabrera hits the first homer of the 2021 season!

Photo by Douglas P. DeFelice/ Cabrera’s opposite field shot was the 350th of his Tigers career, and 488th overall. Miguel Cabrera is trying to make history this year as the first player in MLB history to reach 3,000 career hits and 500 home runs in the same season. We’re only one inning in, but he’s off to a great start. The first home run of 2021 belongs to Miggy! pic.twitter.com/6ymHjvoLMJ— MLB (@MLB) April 1, 2021 Cabrera’s two-run shot — one in which he didn’t see leave the park because the snow is thicker than a bowl of oatmeal — is the 488th...

Tigers DFA Stewart for assignment, finalize Opening Day roster

Photo by Mark Cunningham/MLB Photos via Stewart was designated to make room for Derek Holland on the 40-man roster. The Detroit Tigers designated outfielder Christin Stewart for assignment on Thursday, making room for lefthander Derek Holland, who was added to the 40-man roster prior to Detroit’s Opening Day matchup with the Cleveland Indians. The Tigers selected Stewart with the 34th overall pick in the 2015 MLB draft, and he rose quickly through the minors, hitting for power at all levels. He made his MLB debut in September 2018, and showed flashes of his potential...

Introduce yourself to the BYB community!

Photo by Mark Cunningham/MLB Photos via It’s Opening Day! Let’s get to know each other a little better. Baseball is back! It wasn’t the longest offseason in recent memory — going without baseball last spring was painful, y’all — but those winter months still seemed to stretch on all the same. Now, with the 2021 MLB season getting underway in just a few hours, it’s time to get acquainted (or reacquainted, for the old-timers here) with one another. Hop into the comments, tell us a little bit about who you are and why you love the Tigers. Specifically,...

Watch the Tigers get into a pickle that goes absolutely nowhere

Watch the Tigers get into a pickle that goes absolutely nowhere

Photo by Cliff Welch/Icon Sportswire via Maybe the Phillies should run a few more drills before Opening Day. The Detroit Tigers used an eight-run eighth inning to cap off a wild comeback victory over the Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday. We would normally use a word like “thrilling” to describe what happened, but the Tigers’ big inning featured seven (!) walks and a hit batter, with only three hits. In the middle of all that carnage was possibly the most spring training play we have seen all spring training. I can’t describe this play. Just watch. #Tigers...
