MLB Roundup 11/27: Tomoyuki Sugano to be posted

MLB Roundup 11/27: Tomoyuki Sugano to be posted

Photo by Harry How/ And a minor trade from Wednesday. Tomoyuki Sugano to be posted One of the best pitchers in Japan is going to be coming to the US this summer. On Wednesday, it was reported that the Yomiuri Giants will be posting Tomoyuki Sugano for major-league clubs at some point this winter. The exact timetable still isn’t exactly clear, but presumably teams will be able to start negotiating with the righty soon. Once Sugano is posted, all major-league teams will have 30 days to negotiate with him. He can take the best deal, with the posting fee being a rate...

Daily Red Sox Links: Andrew Benintendi, George Springer, Darwinzon Hernandez

Photo by Billie Weiss/Boston Red Sox/ One of the biggest questions for the Red Sox moving forward is with Andrew Benintendi. What has gone wrong lately? Is it fixable? And maybe do other teams still see enough value there to make some sort of trade work? (Alex Speier; Boston Globe) While there are some big free agents available that also happen to fit the needs of the Red Sox, they may be better off spreading out some one-year deals with mid-tier names. (Sean McAdam; Boston Sports Journal) Over in the trade market, Blake Snell’s name has come up in rumors as he vaults...

Red Sox claim Joel Payamps off waivers from Diamondbacks

Red Sox claim Joel Payamps off waivers from Diamondbacks

Photo by Kiyoshi Mio/Icon Sportswire via Robert Stock is designated for assignment to make room. The Red Sox have made their first addition to the 40-man roster from outside the organization of the offseason, and to no one’s surprise it was a pitcher. It was not, however, a free agent or a trade acquisition. Instead, the team announced on Wednesday that they have claimed right-handed pitcher Joel Payamps off waivers from the Diamondbacks. To make room on the 40-man roster, Robert Stock was designated for assignment. Additionally, the team announced that Ryan Weber...

Red Sox reportedly among teams showing interest in Yasiel Puig

Red Sox reportedly among teams showing interest in Yasiel Puig

Photo by Jason Miller/ It would be a cheap route to fill the hole in the outfield. With Jackie Bradley Jr. hitting free agency, the Red Sox are left with a very clear hole in their outfield. On the surface it would seem that they need to fine a center fielder specifically, though it’s not quite that simple. That is the ideal scenario, but if they have to the team is comfortable with Andrew Benintendi or Alex Verduo sliding over and signing a new corner outfielder. It’s not entirely clear what their plan is — there have been rumors they are interested in bringing...

MLB Roundup 11/25: Braves sign Charlie Morton

MLB Roundup 11/25: Braves sign Charlie Morton

Photo by Alex Trautwig/MLB Photos via And a couple other available players. Braves sign Charlie Morton By and large the league has been incredibly inactive thus far this offseason, but the Braves have been a rare active club. Not too long after signing Drew Smyly, the reigning NL East champs have made another addition to their rotation. It was another one-year deal this time around as well as Atlanta inked Charlie Morton to a one-year deal worth $15 million. Morton was part of what had been a very good Rays rotation that could look quite different in 2021 between this...

Daily Red Sox Links: Blake Snell, Kolten Wong, Nick Yorke

Photo by Tom Pennington/ The starting pitcher market this year is relatively deep, which is very good news for a Red Sox team that not only needs talent but also just needs plain old innings. (Peter Abraham; Boston Globe) Speaking of pitching needs, Blake Snell could be available in a trade with the Rays. Is that really a thing the Red Sox would be able to work, though? (Sean McAdam; Boston Sports Journal) Trevor Bauer, another available free agent, wants to have a throwing contest with fellow free agent Yasiel Puig. Old friend Jackie Bradley Jr. wants in as well. (Rob...

MLB Roundup 11/24: Rays open to trading Blake Snell

Photo by Tom Pennington/ An ace in the division could be on the move. Rays open to trading Blake Snell Last we saw Blake Snell, the lefty was rolling through the Dodgers in a must-win World Series game before being pulled with just one out in the sixth in one of the most controversial managerial decisions in recent baseball history. That may also end up being the last time we see the former Cy Young award winner in a Rays uniform. On Monday, it was reported that the Rays could be open to trading Snell at some point over the winter. To be clear, the linked report...
