Mets 13, A’s 4—Pete Alonso: Mets RBI King

Photo by Thearon W. Henderson/ With his 39th home run, Pete Alonso broke the Mets’ single-season RBI record in the Mets’ rubber game victory in Oakland, driving in five runs in total on the day. The Mets were able to bounce back from yesterday’s deflating loss with a blowout 13-4 rubber game victory over the Athletics in Oakland. The Mets drew first blood in the bottom of the second on a Tyler Naquin RBI single that drove in Pete Alonso, who singled to lead off the inning and was advanced to third on a single by Eduardo Escobar, who went on to collect three hits...

Mets Morning News for September 25, 2022

Photo by Ezra Shaw/ Your Sunday morning dose of New York Mets and MLB news, notes, and links. Meet the Mets After a resounding victory in the series opener in Oakland, the Mets lost a stinker to the A’s 10-4 yesterday. Jacob deGrom had his worst start in years and the bullpen put forth a poor performance as well. The Mets were more or less shut down after the first inning, as the A’s had a spectacular defensive game. But Mark Vientos did hit his first major league home run, which at the time was a game-tying shot; that was more or less the one highlight to speak...

Not so de-Great

Not so de-Great

Photo by Ezra Shaw/ A rough outing from Jacob deGrom kicked off a very annoying day in Oakland. After gaining a game in the standings with a dominant win on Friday, the Mets followed up with a dud, losing to the lowly A’s 10-4. Starting from the bottom of the first, nearly nothing went right in this one; Jacob deGrom made his worst start in years, the offense dried up, the bullpen was poor, and every A’s hit seemed to drive in another run. One of those games that’s best forgotten. Initially, things seemed to be heading in the same direction as Friday’s 9-2 win....

Mets Daily Prospect Report, 9/24/22: Smith succeeds for Syracuse

David Kohl-USA TODAY Sports Catch up on all the Mets prospects in yesterday’s minor league action! *All results from games played on September 23, 2022 Triple-A: Syracuse Mets (62-83) Syracuse had an early lead, blew it, then came back with a pair of runs in the sixth. Dominic Smith had an early home run of the rehabbing Nate Eovaldi, but Harol Gonzalez coughed that lead up immediately. Gonzalez gave up another lead in the fourth and fifth, but a single from Michael Perez re-tied the game before a Jake Mangum sacrifice fly put the Mets in front. Bryce Montes de Oca,...

Mets 9, A’s 2: Mets bring their A(‘s) game in series opener

Photo by Thearon W. Henderson/ Nine runs, thirteen hits, no problem. The Mets were gifted an off-day loss by the Braves yesterday, and with the Braves losing again today, it was imperative that the Mets take advantage of this situation. And take advantage they did, as the Mets walloped the Athletics 9-1 in Oakland this evening. Cole Irvin started for the A’s, and kept the Mets off the board for the first inning. But in the second, the Mets got on the board with a bloop single by Mark Vientos with the bases loaded, scoring Pete Alonso from third. Two batters later,...

This Week in Mets Quotes: Mets remember John Stearns

Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports Lots of interesting, funny, idiotic, and insightful things were said by the Mets—and about them—recently. Here are some of our favorites. Your 2022 New York Mets: You earn everything in this game. “You earn everything in this game. Our guys continue to earn it daily.” -Buck Showalter [MLB] I mean he’s 100% correct. “I’ve been here for a little over four years [and] haven’t played a playoff game. I think the ultimate goal when you get to Spring Training is to get back to the playoffs. You don’t have a chance to win the World...

Looking at the Mets’ rotation down the stretch

Looking at the Mets’ rotation down the stretch

Photo by Adam Hunger/ Everything should line up nicely for the important series with the Braves and the first playoff round, whenever that is. Entering play tonight in Oakland, the Mets are 1.5 games up on the Braves, with 11 games to play. With a playoff spot clinched, there are three goals for the Mets over these last two weeks: stay healthy, clinch the division (and thus gain a bye through the Wild Card round), and line up their pitching staff for the playoffs. While the health goal is the most important, there isn’t much to discuss in that regard, besides hoping...

Mets head to Bay Area for three with Athletics

Photo by Lachlan Cunningham/ The Mets will look to bolster their chances at winning the East against the worst of the West. The Mets (95-56) make their final trip out of the Eastern Time Zone (for the regular season, at least) as they travel to the Bay Area for three against the Athletics (55-95). This will only be New York’s third trip to RingCentral Coliseum (formerly Oakland Coliseum). They lost two of three in Oakland in 2005, and split two games in 2014. Overall, they’ve won 10 of the 16 games they’ve played with the A’s. The Mets currently find themselves...
