Rockets Boogie Past Mavs 133-108

Don’t look back in anger. | Photo by Glenn James/NBAE via Refreshing. This was unexpected. For a refreshing change this Rockets season, it was unexpected in a good way. Tonight, with both teams on a back-to-back, the Rockets crushed the Dallas Mavericks 133-108. It was a strange night in that the three point shooting luck favored the Rockets, and not Tim Hardaway Jr. Boogie Cousins looked like the Demarcus Cousins of 2016-17. The player who averaged 27pts, 11rbs, 4.6ast, 1.4stl and 1.3blk per game. Before things started to go wrong. For this season the former...

John Wall’s footie pyjamas. | Photo by Cato Cataldo/NBAE via Fifteen Games, Eleven Lineups The Houston Rockets face their first back-to-back game of this strange NBA season, but one thing hasn’t changed: the lineup uncertainty. Tonight John Wall will probably play. Victor Oladipo will not, as his load is being managed. Christian Wood will not play, but will probably play soon. Kevin Porter Jr. has not yet appeared with the Rockets and won’t tonight. Danuel House is still missing. This will mark the Rockets 11th different starting lineup in 15 games. While...

Rockets’ win over Pistons show a new winning blueprint for Houston

Rockets’ win over Pistons show a new winning blueprint for Houston

Photo by Gregory Shamus/ No longer a one-man show, the Houston Rockets exhibited hustle and grit in their one-point victory over the Pistons Friday night.   Stephen Silas said he was hoping the referees saw what he saw. With 3.4 seconds remaining in the game, Jerami Grant scored a layup over the top of P.J. Tucker. The ball clearly went in as the buzzer sounded, but Tucker made contact with Grant on his way to the basket. If Tucker’s bump came before the buzzer, it would have allowed Grant an opportunity to win the game from the foul line for the Detroit Pistons....

Rockets vs. Mavericks game preview: I-45 rivals battle once again

Photo by Cato Cataldo/NBAE via After escaping Detroit with a win in nail-biting fashion, the Houston Rockets fly down to Dallas to take on the Mavericks in the team’s first back-to-back of the season. By process of their chief divisional rivals trading James Harden, the Dallas Mavericks are now the kings of the Southwest Division. Houston and San Antonio are clearly retooling. Memphis and New Orleans have young talent that is growing, but Dallas should dominate the division for the next couple of years. After last year’s playoff experience, most expect the Mavs to...

Rockets survive by the skin of their teeth, snap three-game losing streak vs. Pistons

Photo by Gregory Shamus/ Rockets pick up the win. Exhale. The Houston Rockets are all smiles on the way back to Texas after a 103-102 win over the Detroit Pistons Friday evening. Despite playing without Christian Wood (ankle sprain) and John Wall (sore knee), the Rockets built a substantial lead against the Pistons, leading by as much as 20 points in the second quarter. The Rockets lead ballooned thanks to strong energy from the Rockets reserves. Sterling Brown, David Nwaba and Ben McLemore became the first Rockets trio to score in double figures off the bench this...

Rockets withstand final review in 103-102 win over Pistons

DETROIT (AP) — Jerami Grant's driving layup on the final play came too late, and the Houston Rockets held on for a 103-102 victory over the Detroit Pistons on Friday night. Down one with 3.4 seconds remaining, the Pistons inbounded to Grant, who faked a handoff to Blake Griffin and then drove down the right side of the lane. Time clearly ran out before he laid the ball in, but he was also bumped by Houston's P.J. Tucker. Replays showed that contact also came after time expired, and after a review, the game ended with the Rockets holding on. Grant scored 21 points for Detroit, which rallied...

SB Nation Reacts: James Harden and the Nets

SB Nation Reacts: James Harden and the Nets

Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports What do our voters think about The Beard’s new home? It’s time for this week’s SB Nation Reacts results, and this one hits a little close to home, even though James Harden is no longer a Houston Rocket. Our national questions this week focus on what the Brooklyn Nets will look like now that The Beard is in the fold, and of course, we also have our Rockets fan confidence rating now that the team is superstar-less and looking to rebuild. First up, we asked our national voters if the Nets would win a championship as currently...

Rockets vs. Pistons game preview: reeling Rockets look to snap skid

Photo by Tim Warner/ The Houston Rockets have dropped three straight games, as well as five of their last six contests. Tonight, they head to Detroit to take on Christian Wood’s former team. The early returns on the Wood deal are that the Rockets got a steal for 3 years, $41 million. Wood has shown glimpses of superstardom, and the Anthony Davis comparisons (while premature) don’t seem so outrageous with each passing game. That being said, Wood rolled his ankle against the Phoenix Suns on Wednesday night. He did return to the game, but anyone who has rolled an ankle...

AP source: Cavaliers trading Porter to Rockets for pick

CLEVELAND (AP) — The Cleveland Cavaliers are finalizing a trade to send troubled forward Kevin Porter Jr. to the Houston Rockets for a future draft pick, a person familiar with the deal told the Associated Press on Thursday night. The Cavs are sending Porter, a first-round pick two years ago who hasn't played this season, to the Rockets for a protected second-round pick. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the trade has to be approved by the NBA. Porter's days with the Cavs came to an end late last week when he had an outburst in the team's locker room after learning his...

Christian Wood is a building block for the future with Rockets

Photos by Logan Riely/NBAE via Have the Rockets discovered the league’s next big star? Times have certainly changed in Houston. In what has been an emotional departure, James Harden has dumped H-Town to team up with Kevin Durant in Brooklyn. It hurts losing such a key component of the franchise, but the band aid has been ripped off and now it’s time to heal the wounds. What remains is a core of new faces. That being said, who is next in line on the Rockets hierarchy? Is it John Wall or Victor Oladipo, both 2017 All-Star guards coming off injuries? Or perhaps...
