Stott and Cabrera named Paul Owens Award winners

Infielder Bryson Stott and right-hander pitcher Jean Cabrera were recognized by the Phillies on Thursday as recipients of the Paul Owens Award, given annually to the top minor league player and pitcher in the organization.  Stott, 23, enters today with the third-highest batting average among qualifying Double-A Northeast hitters this season. He's batting .294 with 26 doubles, two triples, 15 home runs, 46 RBI, 64 runs, 55 walks, nine stolen bases, a .381 on-base percentage, and a .493 slugging percentage in 100 combined games this season between high-A Jersey Shore (22 G) and double-A...

Phillies prospect and notorious No. 1 pick drops Twitter thread full of life lessons

Philadelphia Phillies pitching prospect Mark Appel was once labeled the “biggest bust in MLB history.” Before that, he was the first overall pick in the 2013 draft, chosen by the Houston Astros, his hometown team. Then-Astros GM Jeff Luhnow called him “the most significant investment… in an amateur player” in franchise history. But by early […] Phillies prospect and notorious No. 1 pick drops Twitter thread full of life lessons - That Balls Outta Here - That Balls Outta Here - Philadelphia Phillies News, Rumors, and Fan Community

Phillies Game Today: Phillies vs Mets Lineup, Odds, Prediction, Pick, Pitcher, TV Channel for September 17

The Philadelphia Phillies head to Queens riding high on a 17-run win over the Cubs.  This wouldn’t seem so impressive, given the Cubs’ record this season, but considering the Phillies have struggled to beat under-.500 teams, taking two of three from them this week was a coup. The New York Mets, who were such stiff […] Phillies Game Today: Phillies vs Mets Lineup, Odds, Prediction, Pick, Pitcher, TV Channel for September 17 - That Balls Outta Here - That Balls Outta Here - Philadelphia Phillies News, Rumors, and Fan Community

At least our owner stays off Twitter: Phillies vs. Mets series preview

Taijuan Walker needs his spider tack back | Photo by Will Newton/ It could be worse. We could have to deal with John Middleton tweeting through it. Ah yes, the Mets. The Phillies have been a source of frustration to their fans, and some of their organizational decisions make us question why we continue to cheer for the team. But then you look towards what’s happening in Queens, and suddenly it doesn’t seem quite so bad. Sure, the Phillies front office continues to be a dysfunctional mess, and most of the players on the team have disappointed to some degree. But...

Bryce Harper should be the MVP

Bryce Harper should be the MVP

Kyle Ross-USA TODAY Sports What are we even doing here? Listen, I’m a man of few words. Bryce Harper should be the MVP of the league this year, regardless of what happens the remainder of the season. Making the playoffs would obviously win him more votes among the unenlightened, but anyone who knows the game knows that without Harper on the team, they’re borderline unwatchable. So, instead of boring you with all the reasons for why (that’s later), here are some tweets: Bryce Harper is coming for that NL MVP award (via @Phillies)pic.twitter.com/t4CwoinhvS— FOX...

Phillies set outrageous National League record in victory over Cubs

The Phillies overcame the Cubs 17-8 and made history along the way Don’t worry, the Philadelphia Phillies haven’t broken the MLB blown saves record just yet. No, this record is something that has apparently never been done in MLB history before. Kyle Ross-USA TODAY Sports It’s a thing to behold Sometimes, the daily links need no introduction. Sometimes, you just have to get to them and read them and bask in them. Today is one of those days because boy do we have one for you. If you were on social media last night, you know what I’m talking about. On to the links. Phillies news: I really don’t have anything funny or snarky to say. This is just.....something. It’s kind of stunning really. Should Bryce Harper win the MVP, his season would be wasted if the team doesn’t get to the playoffs. Will Hector...

Bryce Harper had an MVP type of night | Photo by Tim Nwachukwu/ *Provided the offense scores 17 runs in support It’s a long and winding road that leads a team - let alone a team with a supposed interest in making the playoffs - to utilize a four-man starting rotation. The organizational failure that got us to this point will be discussed at length elsewhere, so let’s just focus on the fact that by only having four starters, every fifth game will be handled by a bullpen committee, and for the Phillies, that fifth game came on Thursday night. Without a starting...

Phillies Game Today: Phillies vs Cubs Lineup, Odds, Prediction, Pick, Pitcher, TV Channel for September 16

The Philadelphia Phillies finally stopped the skid on Wednesday night, winning a game in the most Phillies way imaginable, on a walk-off passed ball. But hey, a win is a win. The Phillies blew two saves in one game again on Wednesday On Wednesday night, the Phillies blew their 31st and 32nd saves of the season. If the Phillies are going to make Ian Kennedy the closer, he should mix it up a bit

Amber Searls-USA TODAY Sports Use your other pitches, man Wednesday night, Ian Kennedy gave up his seventh home run as a member of the Phillies in only his 16th appearance with the team. What’s most impressive about this home run is that it came on a fastball quite literally down the middle of the plate. Giving up seven home runs in only 16 appearances is bad, but is also on the fluky side of things. Kennedy was quite bad in 2020, but if you want to chalk that up to small sample size (15 innings pitched) during a pandemic shortened season, I wouldn’t...

What the heck just happened?: Phillies 6, Cubs 5

Bill Streicher-USA TODAY Sports I just don’t know This game never felt comfortable, even with as good as Ranger Suarez was. There was simply a huge sense of inevitability to this that when J.T. Realmuto hit a lead-taking home run in the bottom of the eighth, it just felt that there was going to be issues. Luckily for the Phillies, it was communication issues between the pitcher and catcher on the Cubs that would be an issue. Suarez was quite good for the first few innings, only scattering three hits over the first four innings before his offense could get revving up....
