Rays 2, Yankees 4: Ugh, these guys again?

Rays 2, Yankees 4: Ugh, these guys again?

Photo by Tyler Schank/ Injuries aplenty made this one a real bummer. It seems like every time I turn around the Rays are playing the Yankees (no one point out the regularity with which divisional rivals play, I know, but it feels like 190 times a season, not 19). And with the Yankees maintaining a strong lead in the AL East, the games between these two clubs feels like they matter more than usual. This time around it was a battle of the aces (it feels exceptionally strange to call Shane McClanahan the team’s “ace” but at this point I think he’s earned himself...

NYY @ TB: Gerrit Cole vs. Shane McClanahan

Photo by Julio Aguilar/ It’s a helluva pitching matchup tonight at the Trop. After a rare loss on Sunday afternoon to the Blue Jays that snapped their nine-game winning streak, the Yankees will look to start another one tonight in Tampa Bay. The Yankees and Rays squared off just last week at Yankee Stadium, with New York sweeping the series in a dramatic finish capped by Anthony Rizzo’s walk-off home run. This emphatic statement knocked Kevin Cash’s club back to a double-digit deficit in the AL East standings. Now, the two teams will go head-to-head just a few...

Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports It’s a blockbuster battle of the lefties in the Bronx tonight. The Yankees got just the bounce-back outing they were hoping for out of Gerrit Cole, taking the first game of the series against the Rays, 2-0. The win sets the tone for the tough slate of games facing the team, with series against the Rays, Blue Jays, and Astros as part of a larger stretch of 20 games in 20 days acting as a mid-season litmus test. Tonight, we get to see two of the best starting pitchers in baseball duke it out. Nestor Cortes gets the ball for his 12th start...

Rays 2, Cardinals 1: Sugar Shane McClanahan Makes The Sweep Sweet

Photo by Mike Carlson/ Tampa Bay Rays sweep the St. Louis Cardinals led by an amazing pitching performance from Shane McClanahan Tropicana Field turned into a dueling ground for just under two hours today with the Tampa Bay Rays emerging the victors. Before sharing some of the key moments of the on-field play, there was a special moment before the third inning when the Rays played a video tribute to honor Albert Pujols and Yadier Molina. I missed the opening part of the video, but here’s some of the tribute that the #Rays did for Albert Pujols and Yadier Molina....

Rays 6, White Sox 3: Shane McClanahan continues dominant stretch

Jonathan Dyer-USA TODAY Sports A first inning outburst and another solid outing by Shane McClanahan led the way for the Rays The Rays returned home Friday night to open up a three game set with the White Sox following a four game trip to Texas against the Rangers. Friday night’s game opened up a six game home stand during which the Rays will play three games against both the Sox and Cardinals. After winning the last two games to split the four game set with the Rangers, Shane McClanahan took to the mound in hopes of extending the Rays winning streak to three games...

Photo by Mike Ehrmann/ Rays salvage a split with the Yankees, and Tommy Pham slaps Joc Pederson over fantasy football. No, really. The Rays put together a decent 4-2 week, getting a mini-sweep of the Marlins and a split in a four game series with the Yankees. They now sit at 28-19, 4.5 games behind the Yankees. They kick off a four game Texas road trip today against the Ranger before coming home to host the White Sox for a three game set. Our own Brian Menéndez at BPro on Sugar Shane. Today for @baseballpro I wrote about Shane McClanahan and how he is one of the most...

NYY @ TB: Luis Severino vs. Shane McClanahan

Photo by Patrick Smith/ The Yankees try to take three of four from the second-place Rays before a well-earned day off. It seems like the Yankees have played every single day for the last 84 years, with the exception of a couple rainouts that then necessitated immediate doubleheaders to make up for games lost. Well, here we are. One more game — the fourth against Tampa — and New York can finally have a day off that they won’t immediately be punished for. On the line? Win to take three of four, and stretch the lead in the AL East to 6.5 games. Lose to split the...
