Yankees 2, Rays 8: Nelson experiment fails, bats mostly silenced

Yankees 2, Rays 8: Nelson experiment fails, bats mostly silenced

Photo by Mike Stobe/ The boos rained down on another feeble performance by the Yankees It was a cold, dreary night at Yankee Stadium, and the overall performance of the Bronx Bombers reflected the meteorological environment in which they played. From the word go, the Yankees were never really in this one. Opener Nick Nelson spotted the Rays a two-run first inning lead, and the ensuing uphill battle for the Bombers proved to be a Sisyphean task. Nelson walked leadoff batter Austin Meadows, and then surrendered back-to-back doubles to Randy Arozarena and Brandon Lowe....

Nick Nelson has tough night as opener for Yankees before Michael King keeps things close vs. Rays

Nelson was particularly hittable Friday and didn't quite serve as the ideal bridge to Michael King, who was slated to be the day's "bulk man."

NYY vs. TBR: Nick Nelson vs. Michael Wacha

Photo by Jim McIsaac/ Expect some combination of Nick Nelson and Michael King in a likely bullpen game for the Yankees series opener against the Rays The Yankees take on the Rays in the series opener tonight, looking to avenge the 2-1 series loss at the hands of the filter-feeders. The Bombers avoided the complete embarrassment of a sweep in the first series against the Rays at The Trop, and with their opponents having dropped three of four to the lowly Rangers this week, the New York outfit could be catching them at the opportune moment. Nothing is a guarantee against...

Yankees recall Michael King, will follow Nick Nelson

Photo by Sarah Stier/ The team announced their pitching plans for tonight’s bullpen game. Aaron Boone announced the Yankees’ pitching plans earlier today, stating that Nick Nelson will open tonight’s game against the Rays. The Yankees also announced that they had recalled Michael King from their alternate site. King will follow Nelson, presumably after the latter has thrown an inning or two. This clarifies the team’s designs for their rotation for the next week. Jordan Montgomery would have been on line to start the series opener, but the Yankees have said they...

This could be Tyler Wade’s last chance with the Yankees

This could be Tyler Wade’s last chance with the Yankees

Photo by Douglas P. DeFelice/ The utility man is running out of opportunities to prove he’s worth a roster spot. Spring training has come and gone, and it’s officially time to get excited about the season! The next time you see the Yankees, they’ll be playing in a game that counts. The roster is pretty much all set, as they have chosen 25 out of the 26 players on the Opening Day roster. On Monday, the Yankees announced that Tyler Wade, Nick Nelson, and Michael King will suit up on April 1st, as they’ve made the team. Surviving the cut is just the start for these...

NYY News: Tauchman cometh?

NYY News: Tauchman cometh?

Photo by Julio Aguilar/ Yankees might be leaning Mike Tauchman over Jay Bruce; Nick Nelson stands to play prominent role in 2021; DJ LeMahieu towers over the field; Mets or Yankees in 2021? Yahoo Sports | Garrett Stepien: The Yankees have an important roster decision looming, as midnight was their deadline to guarantee Jay Bruce a roster spot. It looks like they won’t add Bruce to the 26-man, so the veteran has 48 hours to seek a major league spot with another club. This would seem to signal that the team will roll with Mike Tauchman as their fifth outfielder (though...
