Blue Jays: Which free agent would you re-sign?

The Toronto Blue Jays have a handful of pending free agents who could find work elsewhere next season, however, which player would you like to see the team make a cognizant effort to re-sign? The likes of Taijuan Walker, Robbie Ray, Jonathan Villar, Joe Panik, Ken Giles, Matt Shoemaker, and Anthony Bass could all be […] Blue Jays: Which free agent would you re-sign? - Jays Journal - Jays Journal - Toronto Blue Jays News, Rumors and Fan Community

Toronto Blue Jays: Then why even have a manager…….?

If the Toronto Blue Jays are not going to trust their manager’s ability to make in-game decisions, then why even keep Charlie Montoyo around? During the first game of the Blue Jays postseason series with the Tampa Bay Rays, manager Charlie Montoyo was heavily criticized for yanking pitcher Matt Shoemaker after three innings of shutout […] Toronto Blue Jays: Then why even have a manager…….? - Jays Journal - Jays Journal - Toronto Blue Jays News, Rumors and Fan Community

Blue Jays: Why I still don’t like Matt Shoemaker being pulled early

It may have worked out fine for the Blue Jays, but I still think that pulling Matt Shoemaker after just three innings was the wrong decision. The pitching was not the reason for the Blue Jays’ 3-1 loss to the Rays yesterday, but I still think it’s worth talking about the decisions made by the […] Blue Jays: Why I still don’t like Matt Shoemaker being pulled early - Jays Journal - Jays Journal - Toronto Blue Jays News, Rumors and Fan Community

Jays lose game one

Jonathan Dyer-USA TODAY Sports Blue Jays 1 Rays 3 What’s a playoff game without controversy? Matt Shoemaker started. He threw 3 very good innings, 2 soft hit singles with 2 strikeouts. He was cruising. And they take him out of the game. I’m a fan of leaving in the pitcher who is doing well. Shoemaker was at 35 pitches. I figured they would give him up to 60ish pitches. I understand it is a fine line, leave a guy in while he is pitching well, but you never know when that will end, but I figure Matt had another inning in him (at least). In comes Bob Rae (yeah I know Robbie Ray)....

Rays Playoff Preview: How to beat Matt Shoemaker

Photo by Bryan M. Bennett/ In game one of their playoff series, the Rays will face veteran righty, Matt Shoemaker. My two year old loves baseball, and he especially loves Matt Shoemaker, whose name has caused him to invent the concept of heckling. It’s not certain how far into the game Shoemaker will pitch. He hasn’t reached the fifth inning in three of his six starts this season, hooks are generally faster in the postseason, and the Blue Jays do have fellow starter Robbie Ray ready and available to take over. He hears the announcers say “Shoemaker,” and he realizes that it’s a...

Toronto Blue Jays: Why starting Matt Shoemaker in Game 1 makes sense

The Toronto Blue Jays open up the Wild Card round on Tuesday against the Tampa Bay Rays. The Jays announced that they are starting Matt Shoemaker in Game 1 over Hyun Jin-Ryu. Many Jays fans are likely to be skeptical about the decision, but I am going to tell you why I absolutely love it. Jays Playoff Roster

Photo by Timothy T Ludwig/ The Blue Jays announced their playoff roster. The surprises, to me? Anthony Kay is on. I guess they wanted another lefty. No Jordan Romano. And Rowdy Tellez is on. I hope that means he’ll play, not just pinch-hit. Of course, how is his swing, will it take a game or two to get his timing? Reese McGuire was picked over Caleb Joseph. Not a surprise, no Tanner Roark, no Shun Yamaguchi. The list: 13 pitchers: Chase Anderson Anthony Bass Ryan Borucki A.J. Cole Rafael Dolis Thomas Hatch Anthony Kay Nate Pearson Robbie Ray Hyun Jin Ryu Matt Shoemaker Ross...

Wildcard Game #1 Preview: Shoemaker vs Snell

Gregory Fisher-USA TODAY Sports Blue Jays (32-28) vs Rays (40-20) Playoffs! The Blue Jays return to the playoffs today for the first time since 2016, albeit in an expanded format, but that matters not anymore. The Jays are here, and ready to take on the first place Rays in the best of 3 first round. Today’s game gets underway at 5:07 EDT. Blue Jays’ Starter A lot of hands have been wrung over the decision to start Matt Shoemaker today, opting not to go with Ace Hyun-Jin Ryu to open the playoffs. To me, whether Ryu starts today or tomorrow, it doesn’t matter. There seems to be some...

Toronto Blue Jays: Debating the decision to start Shoemaker in Game One

The Toronto Blue Jays will send right-hander Matt Shoemaker to the bump for the first game of the 2020 playoffs. Although he will be the starter, manager Charlie Montoyo should have him on a very short leash if things start to go awry. The 2020 season has been a bit of a roller coaster for […] Toronto Blue Jays: Debating the decision to start Shoemaker in Game One - Jays Journal - Jays Journal - Toronto Blue Jays News, Rumors and Fan Community

Jays starting pitchers for first round

Rick Madonik/Toronto Star via The Blue Jays announced their starting rotation for the first round of playoffs. Game one: Matt Shoemaker Game two: Hyun Jin Ryu Game three: Taijuan Walker I’d guess the plan is to follow Shoemaker with Ray. Putting Ryu in the middle game gives the team the ability to use Borucki in game 1 and 3. The team also said that they might put Rowdy Tellez on the playoff roster. I’m still doubting but they know better. I do like that they are making a decision without worrying about being second guessed. There is going to be a lot of complaining if this...

Happy Birthday Jon Rauch

Happy Birthday Jon Rauch

Photo by Abelimages/ And Len Matuszek, Jason Phillips, Jason Phillips and Matt Shoemaker Jon Rauch turns 42 today. Rauch was our closer for the 2011 season. He didn’t have the best of years. A 4.85 ERA, 11 saves (5 blown saves) in 53 games. He gave up 11 home runs in 52 innings. He had 14 walks and 36 strikeouts in 52 innings. Not the strikeout numbers you want from your closer. He missed time getting his appendix removed and with torn cartilage in his right knee. But, he was easily the scariest looking reliever we have ever had. This was his most famous moment with the Blue Jays: At...

Tonight’s lineup: Zeuch starts

Dan Hamilton-USA TODAY Sports It looks like there has been a change in starting pitcher for tonight. I thought Matt Shoemaker was to start, but now the Blue Jays are saying T.J. Zeuch gets the start. I hope there isn’t a injury reason for the switch. Charlie Montoyo is to talk to the media soon so we’ll hear why the change was made. Bo Bichette and Randal Grichuk both sit today. Joe Panik plays short and Jonathan Davis is in center. Today's Lineups ORIOLES BLUE JAYS Austin Hays - LF Cavan Biggio - 3B Jose Iglesias - SS Jonathan Villar - 2B Ryan Mountcastle -...

Game #59 Preview: Means vs Shoemaker

Gregory Fisher-USA TODAY Sports Blue Jays (31-27) vs Orioles (24-34) The Blue Jays will play their second last game of the regular season today, still trying to jockey for position (Minor Leaguer has a thorough breakdown of what the jockeying looks like), as they host the Orioles. The game gets underway at 6:37 EDT this evening. Blue Jays’ Starter It’ll be a final tune-up start for Matt Shoemaker, who will be making his second start since coming back from injury, but also preparing for a potential game 3 of the Wild Card round, if it makes it that far. Game #55 Preview: Cole vs Roark

Gregory Fisher-USA TODAY Sports Yankees (31-23) vs Blue Jays (28-26) After a fun win last night, the Blue Jays continue their 4 game series against the Yankees this evening. Game 2 gets underway at 6:37 EDT. Blue Jays’ Starter The Jays are set to go with Tanner Roark tonight, and I’m not really sure he’s the one I would have gone with. The Jays have 6 starts left, with Thursday needing to be Hyun-Jin Ryu to line him up with a start next Tuesday to open the playoffs, followed by Taijuan Walker and Matt Shoemaker. That means that there is a starter today who would line up for...
