After Jacob deGrom’s worst start in four seasons, Max Scherzer provided a sense of stability for the Mets on Sunday in their 13-4 victory over the Athletics.

Mets Morning News for September 25, 2022

Photo by Ezra Shaw/ Your Sunday morning dose of New York Mets and MLB news, notes, and links. Meet the Mets After a resounding victory in the series opener in Oakland, the Mets lost a stinker to the A’s 10-4 yesterday. Jacob deGrom had his worst start in years and the bullpen put forth a poor performance as well. The Mets were more or less shut down after the first inning, as the A’s had a spectacular defensive game. But Mark Vientos did hit his first major league home run, which at the time was a game-tying shot; that was more or less the one highlight to speak...

Jacob deGrom’s rare dud sinks Mets in lopsided loss to lowly A’s

Not so de-Great

Not so de-Great

Photo by Ezra Shaw/ A rough outing from Jacob deGrom kicked off a very annoying day in Oakland. After gaining a game in the standings with a dominant win on Friday, the Mets followed up with a dud, losing to the lowly A’s 10-4. Starting from the bottom of the first, nearly nothing went right in this one; Jacob deGrom made his worst start in years, the offense dried up, the bullpen was poor, and every A’s hit seemed to drive in another run. One of those games that’s best forgotten. Initially, things seemed to be heading in the same direction as Friday’s 9-2 win....

A lot or money was shelled out to free agents before the season. Now that it's almost over, what have we learned?

Player Meter: Pitchers, September 12-18

Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports A quick review of how the Mets’ pitchers fared over the past week. It was a mixed bag for the Mets’ rotation this week, with Chris Bassitt putting forth one mediocre start and one excellent one, Jacob deGrom striking out the world, but not keeping runs off the board in the way we are used to, David Peterson putting up a stinker, and Carlos Carrasco and Taijuan Walker continuing to be very solid at the back end of the rotation. The bullpen, however, had a fantastic week. Especially notable was the work of Joely Rodríguez, who had perhaps...

Photo by Michael Urakami/ Jacob deGrom struck out thirteen in the game. The Mets completed a four-game sweep of the Pirates with a win at Citi Field this afternoon. Jacob deGrom struck out thirteen, and Mets pitchers struck out a franchise record twenty batters in total in the victory. It was the Mets who scored first, as Jeff McNeil singled in a run in the bottom of the first. McNeil drew a bases loaded walk to drive in the team’s second run of the game in the second, and Pete Alonso brought in the third with a fielder’s choice ground out later in that...

New York Mets: Jacob deGrom ties major league record

One could argue that New York Mets starter Jacob deGrom was not at his best on Tuesday. deGrom had allowed three runs on four hits over six innings to a Cubs team that is going absolutely nowhere in the standings. Yes, he struck out ten, but he had left with the Mets trailing 3-0 since […] New York Mets: Jacob deGrom ties major league record - Call to the Pen - Call to the Pen - A Major League Baseball Fan Site - News, Blogs, Opinion and More

Cubs 4, Mets 1: The Cubs defeat Jacob deGrom, because baseball

Photo by Adam Hunger/ The Cubs put together an effective offense and got solid pitching from Adrian Sampson and won their second straight over the Mets. Jim Deshaies is a smart baseball analyst and I enjoy listening to him on Marquee Sports Network. During the broadcast of Tuesday’s game, and I’m paraphrasing here, he said that in the Cubs clubhouse prior to the game, they might have said things along the line of, “What are we even doing here, there’s no way we can win this game against a pitcher like Jacob deGrom?” Reverse psychology, of a sort, and if...
